November 9, 1930 – December 28, 2020
Born in Cocoa, Florida to Joseph Taylor and Mary Taylor who were farmers. She was the oldest of five siblings.
Our beloved mother and grandmother left this earth peacefully and with family present, to be with her Heavenly Father. She was residing at Good Samaritan Society struggling to recover from health issues including a broken hip and leg. A private memorial service will be held at Coram Deo Bible Church, Davenport.
Her greatest accomplishments were giving a mother's sacrificial love to raise three sons and three daughters. In Denver, Colorado she worked at Montgomery Wards and greenhouses. In the sixties, the family moved from Denver to Chino, California. In Chino, she worked at the family owned nursery. In the eighties, she and her husband moved to Auberry, California. Many years later, she moved to San Jose, California where she was a personal caregiver and companion for friends. She was a volunteer at church and participated in church activities. In 2011, she moved to Davenport.
She greatly enjoyed gardening and the beauty of all flowers. White gardenias were her favorite flower. Her patio at Brookside Senior Apartments was always a showcase of color with her hanging baskets and potted plants. In years past, she made stuffed teddy bears to sell or give away; crocheted baby blankets and sweaters for family members and for an orphanage in Russia; she was a seamstress and made one of her daughter’s wedding gown, and bridesmaids dresses; made Harley Davidson quilts for her sons; sewed chair back covers for chairs at church; she did ceramics and flower arrangements; she packed Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes full of gifts for children around the world.
Survived by: Five of her six children; Daughters in Davenport, Faye Troutner, Kay Lund, and Deborah Diaz; Sons in California, Don Cook and Gary Cook; Brother in Des Moines, Leonard Taylor; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren across the country. She loved her family.
Preceded in death:
Son: Melvin Cook, California
Husband: George Cook, California
Brothers: Marvin Taylor, Oregon and David Taylor, Wisconsin
Sister: Ruby Taylor, Michigan
We will miss her beautiful smile, strength, resilience, and her fighting spirit. She was a wonderful mother and our friend who will forever be in our hearts. We love you, mom.
