
Frederick J. Lorenzen, 85, of Davenport passed away Friday, May 2, 2014 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. Committal services will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in the Pine Hill Cemetery Chapel, where Davenport American Legion Post 26 will provide military honors. There will be no visitation. Those wishing to attend the service should meet at the Runge Mortuary by 9:45 am Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ducks Unlimited, Inc., Delta Waterfowl Foundation, Scott County Conservation Board or Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation. Fred was born April 11, 1929 in Davenport, a son of Theodore (Sr.) and Martha (Wiesener) Lorenzen. A 1951 graduate of Augustana College, he served in the US Army during the Korean conflict in Counter Intelligence. From 1970 until 1989, he owned and operated the Lorenzen Insurance Agency and later Lorenzen-Steffen Insurance, Inc. He served on the Scott County Conservation Board for 33 ½ years and was an outdoor writer for the Quad City Times for 21years.
His memberships included Ducks Unlimited, Delta Waterfowl, National Rifle Association and American Legion Post 26. He enjoyed waterfowl hunting, fishing, photography, reading, collecting, gardening, visiting with friends and writing.
Fred was the last surviving member, a great grandson, of the Jens-Lorenzen family who came to Davenport in 1854. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
