Dave was born in Richland City, Indiana, to the late Frederick and Bernice Magee. Growing up, Dave was an avid athlete and developed his life-long passion for tools and “fixing” things, working at the local hardware store and alongside his father in construction.
Dave attended Purdue University, where he was a member and house manager of Chauncey Co-operative. He also was part of the Purdue Undergraduate Co-op Program, a program that allowed him to attend school and begin his tenure working with ALCOA. Dave graduated from Purdue University in 1971 with a BS in Electrical Engineering.
During his 40 years with ALCOA, he worked in four states and he served in various roles, which included extensive travel in Europe, Australia, and Asia. Upon his retirement from ALCOA in 2009, he formed MagTech Solutions, LLC, serving as an independent consultant.
Dave met the love of his life, Lynne, while both were attending Purdue University. They were married for nearly 52 years and raised three children.
In his spare time, Dave was very active and involved with his community. He enjoyed playing softball, volleyball, and golf. He also volunteered his time as a soccer and Little League coach for his children’s teams. He was a loyal Purdue sports fan and enjoyed attending games.
Dave’s other great passion was his church, Redeemer Lutheran. He was very involved with the Property Committee, maintaining the church grounds. He also enjoyed being a member of Community Bible Study.
Dave had a big heart, lively sense of humor, and left an impact on all those who knew him. He will be long-remembered for his outdoor Halloween haunted houses, plethora of dad jokes, love of Christmas songs, improvisation of radio lyrics, and his ability to spend extensive amounts of time in hardware stores. He is remembered as, “The only guy I know who could fix anything.”
Dave is survived by his wife Lynne, three children- Andrea Logan- Ankeny, IA, Brian (Holly) Magee- Glenwood Springs, CO, and Todd (Andrea) Magee- The Woodlands, TX; and four grandchildren- Jacob Logan- Scottsdale, AZ, Blaire (Luke) Deggendorf- Overland Park, KS, and Owen and Ethan Magee- The Woodlands, TX. He is pre-deceased by his parents and sister Pam McBride.
A visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at Weerts Funeral Home. In honor of his life, a funeral service will take place at Redeemer Lutheran Church the next day at 10 a.m. Friday, July 28, 2023. Dave will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be left to Redeemer Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to Senior Star for their loving care.
