Gary was born on February 17, 1946 in Davenport, Iowa to James and Eva (Nelson) Rodgers. He spent his childhood in LeClaire, Iowa, going fishing, riding his bike, chopping wood, delivering papers, and as he would say “doing dumb stuff”, until he graduated from Bettendorf High School. He served his country for 24 years in the United States Army. During his tour in Germany he enjoyed Volksmarching. (5K walks through the woods of various German villages.) In 1990 he was united in marriage to Kim, blending their families together to make one. He was very proud of his academic accomplishments and worked a variety of jobs, from paving runways in Vietnam to working with the handicapped and driving semi trucks.
In his retired years, Gary enjoyed golfing, family fishing trips to Wisconsin, fixing things around the house, and spending time with his family. He was a wonderful and loving father, step-father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Kim Rodgers; daughters, Patty (Eric) Rodgers and Deanna Rodgers; son, Zach (Erin) Rodgers; step-sons, Travis (Robin) Current and Brad Current; grandchildren: Anthony, Alex, Maryah and Kolton; great grandchild, Angelo; and Sparky, the cat.
