Glenn Dale Zaruba, 88, of Davenport, passed away peacefully, near his loving wife, at his Bickford Cottage residence on Friday, June 26, 2020. A funeral service will be held at the Runge Mortuary, Davenport, on Wednesday, July 1, at 10:00 a.m, with burial in Mayflower Cemetery, Oxford Junction, Iowa. Glenn Dale was born on April 2, 1932, in Oxford Junction, Iowa, to John and Francis (Coppess) Zaruba. He married Helen Marter on March 29, 1952 in Wyoming, Iowa. Glenn Dale served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, from 1952 to 1954.
Glenn Dale first began work at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa, Iowa, where he met his wife, Helen. After sixteen years with Clinton Engines, he went on to work at Caterpillar in Mt. Joy, Iowa, taking early retirement after twenty years there. His final employer was Gardner Engineering, Inc. in Davenport.
In his free time and during his retirement, Glenn Dale enjoyed listening to Blue Grass music, trout fishing, and building model tractors.
Those surviving to honor Glenn Dale’s memory include his wife of 68 years, Helen; sons, Rodney (the late Janie) Zaruba, Fairhope, AL, and Gary (Pam) Zaruba, Davenport; brothers, John (Joyce) Zaruba, Tipton, IA, Bobby (the late Darlene) Zaruba, Marshalltown, IA, James (the late Cookie) Zaruba, Des Moines, Jerry (Judy) Zaruba, Cedar Rapids, IA; sister-in-law, Gert (the late Wayne) Zaruba, Maquoketa, IA; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, ten step-great-grandchildren, and eight great-great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Glenda; son, David; brother, Wayne; and sister, Barbara Widel.
