Greg Viviani, 50, filled the position of angel from Heaven on Sunday, April 23. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Handicapped Development Center.
Greg was born in Davenport on July 1, 1966 to Glenn (Skipper) and Ardis Viviani, becoming the only brother to five older sisters. He enjoyed the status of spoiled baby of the family for a number of years.
For 45 years, Greg was a client of Davenport’s Handicapped Development Center (HDC). He has always been proud to be part of the HDC family. Greg graduated from Truman School and went to work at HDC, where he learned to be a good worker and a good friend. HDC was truly his second home. In 2007, he moved into a residential apartment and became independent.
Greg lived in a world where Batman and Superman were real; where Johnny and Roy were still paramedics in Squad 51; and where gameshows were always on (thanks – GSN!). His love for his family and friends was deeper than anyone could imagine.
Greg loved the Cubs and the Hawkeyes and was especially happy to see the Cubs win the World Series. He loved movies, Taco Tuesdays, Saturday lunches with Aunt Betty, Kitt, and Lori, playing music with Bill and the band, being with friends, and being helpful to others.
Those who have gone before include his parents; grandparents Tony and Dorothy Viviani, Laura and Maurice Bennett, & Marie Lange; many aunts and uncles including Marilyn and Glenn Bankson & Richard Schwartzfeger; cousin Bill Allen, and his waiting angel – niece Elizabeth Winckler.
Remaining to honor his memory are his sisters: Kitt (Bill) McKirgan, Lori (Hal) Winckler, Debbie (Nick) Dockum, Gwen (Ron) Smith, and Vicki (Randy) Stoebner. Greg leaves behind nieces and nephews Tony (Amanda) Dockum, Nicholas (Tiffany) Dockum, Sarah (Andy) Akers, Melissa Smith and her fiancé (Josh Marino), Emily (Chris) Ferraro, Alyssa Winckler, and Travis Stoebner – along with 12 and 1/3 grand nieces and nephews. He also leaves his brother from another mother (and roommate) Craig, close friend Jamie, and his most beloved Aunt Betty Lange, who always believed in him.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at HDC - especially Penny, Dominique, Courtney, Janice, Jake, Erin and Greg’s special friend, Seth. We apologize for anyone we did not include, we know that you were all very special to him.
Heaven got an awesome angel, but we will really miss him down here.
I miss you SO much, Bud!
