

Guy S. Brock, Sr., 82, of Davenport, died Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at his residence in Davenport. Memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010, at The Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family. Guy was born February 24, 1928, in Decatur, Ill., the son of William P. and Zelia (Eaglin) Brock. He was united in marriage to May Voelkers and later to Ethel Maire. They preceded him in death.
He was a proud veteran serving during World War II with the Merchant Marines.
Prior to his retirement he worked as a lineman with Iowa/Illinois Gas and Electric for 40 years. Guy continued his education and received his GED in 2005.
He enjoyed reading, all types of music, to sing and write poetry, dancing, fishing, bowling, hunting, and gardening.
Guy was a member of Saga, enjoyed playing cards at CASI, and volunteered every year at the Bix.
In his early years he served as lay minister in both Davenport and Walcott.
Those left to honor his memory include his five daughters, Barbara (Francis) Vargas, Tooele, Utah, Peggy (Harry) Purvis, Culbertson, Mont., Pamela (David) Biskupiak, New Haven, Conn., Connie (Doug) Schultz, Las Vegas, Nev., and Michelle (Jerry) Vieger, Davenport; son, Steve (Linda) Brock, Fort Dodge, Iowa; many special friends, including Ruth; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, 5th floor and Genesis Hospice for their wonderful care.
