

Helen L. Buchmeyer/Wilkie, 93, of Davenport passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the Kahl Home in Davenport. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Monday at the mortuary and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Helen was born June 22, 1919 in Pittsburg, Kansas, the daughter of Claude and Pearl (Brown) Conner.
She received her beauticians license when she was 17 years old in Kansas and moved to Davenport in 1938. She bought her first shop in 1946 in East Davenport after marrying Carmen Buchmeyer in 1945. Following his death in 1952, she operated Buck’s Tavern and Beauty Salon until 1959. She was employed by Helene Curtis Beauty Products Co. as a color technician and platform artist throughout the U.S. from 1959-1961. She received her electrolysis license and operated her beauty salon and electrolysis treatment out of her home until she retired in 2005.
She enjoyed her swimming pool and having family over for pool parties and holiday gatherings.
Survivors include her children Kenneth C. Buchmeyer and Karen L. Winstanly, eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her husbands, Carman Buchmeyer and Arthur Wilkie, son John C. Buchmeyer, her parents and a brother.
