

Helen Dorothy Hinkle, 100, of Bettendorf, Iowa died at Senior Star Assisted Living on March 2, 2026. She was born on February 21, 1926, in Chicago, Ill., the youngest child of Arden and Rose Skinner. Services will be held at Weerts Funeral Home on March 6, 2026, at 2 p.m. with visitation one hour prior at 1 p.m. A committal service will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.
Helen attended public schools in the Chicago area and then enrolled at Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa where she met her future husband Warren when he returned from World War II in 1945. She graduated from Graceland in 1946 and married Warren that same year at the First Chicago RLDS Church (now Community of Christ) in Chicago.
Helen and Warren moved to the Quad Cities shortly after their wedding where Warren became an educator in the Bettendorf and Pleasant Valley school districts. Helen was a homemaker and an active member of Community of Christ. She had a lifelong interest in music that was encouraged by her mother with vocal lessons in her youth and participation as a soloist and choir member into her adulthood. She was very active in the church music programs throughout her life, directing the Davenport congregation choir for many years, most notably during a time the services were broadcast on the morning radio. In addition, Helen taught multiple children and adult church school classes and served on various committees over the years.
Helen and Warren had a vacation home that she loved in Spring Green, Wisc. She had been able to spend many happy weeks there even as recently as last October. In addition, Helen and Warren spent over 20 years wintering in Miramar Beach, Fla. where she notably made two holes in one, the last in 2012.
Helen is survived by her son, David (Hector Herrera) of Chicago; daughter, Nancy (Dr. Nelson Chesney) of Bettendorf; two granddaughters, four great-grandchildren, and numerous step grandchildren.
