Holly Merritt, 48, of Davenport, passed away Monday, March 6, 2017 at Genesis West Medical Center. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Friday. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery following the service. Holly was born December 21, 1968 in Denver, Colorado. She was the loving daughter of Raymond and Marjorie (Scott) Merritt. Holly graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois with a double major in Accounting and Finance. She worked as an Accountant at the A. D. Huesing Corporation for the last eighteen years. Holly lived a simple, private life. She was a great listener who gave a person her full attention. Faced with many health issues over the years, Holly was a strong person who faced her adversities with courage and strength. She weathered her pain quietly. Despite it all, she maintained her dry sense of humor. Holly loved her family and was especially close to her mother Marjorie. She also loved her wire hair fox terrier dogs Sadie and Sandy. Every year in July her family could count on an email from her asking them to send her their Christmas wish list. She loved going on driving adventures to places such as Michigan, Canada, Minnesota and California. Whether at home or traveling, Holly loved to window shop. She also enjoyed good dining experiences, and she was a good cook who loved to bake. Her signature chicken pot pie and pasta salad were a specialty. She loved anything chocolate ranging from her own homemade fudge candy to doughnuts to ice cream. While Holly loved coffee flavored ice cream, she did not like to actually drink coffee. Given a choice she preferred Diet Pepsi to Diet Coke which seemed appropriate since her employer handled Pepsi products. In the evenings she enjoyed watching television; her favorite shows were MacGyver, Dancing with the Stars, Burn Notice, Star Gate, Fox 5 and detective shows. She had an extensive collection of Dickens’ Village Series pieces. Her favorite color was pink, and she loved to go without make-up. Those left to cherish her memory include her mother, Marjorie Merritt, Davenport, IA; siblings: Pam (Bob) Karll, Naples, FL; Raymond Scott (Samantha), San Francisco, CA and James (Julie) Merritt, Dixon, IL; nieces and nephews: Jeffrey Karll (Thielen), Bettendorf, IA; Andrew Karll (Brittany), Grand Rapids, MI and Katie Karll, Naples, FL and great nephews James and Alexander. Her father Raymond preceded her in death. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.rungemortuary.com.
