11/03/1937 – 09-01-2024
It is with a deep and profound sadness to announce that our beautiful mother passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024 at the age of 86, in the early morning hours, in the house she so dearly loved. In the days leading up to her peaceful transition, she was surrounded with an immense amount of love, both physically and from a far. Right before God was ready to lift her gently into His arms, He provided her with the strength to give us kids, a most precious gift...one that will forever live on in our hearts and carry us through our most difficult days. Thank you, God! Thank you, mom!
Imogene McKune was born to Manuel and Valentine McKune on November 3, 1937 in Washington, IA. She married Thomas Henry Purdy on November 3, 1956 and they had four children together; Bryan, Kevin, David, and Carla. She later married Jim VanBlaricom. Jean was a dedicated worker, spending many years as a fork- lift operator at Franks Foundry in Davenport. She also contributed her skills at Burke Cleaners for many years, assisting in various capacities from pressing garments to sewing. If we had one word to describe her, it would be altruistic. She was always thinking of and putting others before herself. Jean was profoundly selfless, compassionate, and influential. Her presence was marked by her strength and independence, traits she maintained until her final moments. Her family recalls her as fun, witty, and a source of much laughter. She shared numerous precious moments with her children and grandchildren, which became fond family memories. Jeans hobbies reflect her engaging and active spirit. She enjoyed camping, bowling, poker, cribbage, and was an avid baker and cook, often experimenting with new "concoctions". She also loved crocheting, putting puzzles together, playing scrabble, and watching westerns. She lit up when she got visits from her grand and great grandkids and she loved them all dearly. Her dog, Mitzi, was a constant, loyal, and loving companion, joining her in many of her leisure activities.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents: Manuel and Valentine McKune, and her siblings: Manuel McKune, Jr, Frieda McKune, Colene McFarland and Richard McKune.
She is survived by her loving family, including her four children: Bryan (Gina) Purdy of Eldridge, IA. Kevin (Sharlene) Purdy of Davenport, IA. David Purdy of Davenport, IA and Carla (Jim) Secoy of Davenport, IA. Her legacy continues through her grand and great grandchildren: Angela Purdy of Walcott, IA - Brenden, Jewel, Paxton. Eric Lloyd See of Davenport, IA - Zane, Rhea, Aysa, Nakiah. Alexandra (Matthew) Bowe of Bettendorf, IA – Bryson. Teri (Jeremy) Reingold of Leader, TX - Jaeden, Madden. Kayla (Cory) Grass of Davenport, IA - Logan, Levity, Leland, and Lilah. Jennifer (Eric) Secoy of Clermont, FL. Kyle (Savanna) of Davenport, IA. Also mourning her passing is her nephew...but she thought more as a brother, Rick McFarland and his wife, Carolynn, of Brighton, CO.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has been completed with no funeral services to be held. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.rungemortuaty.com. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her, as a testament to a life well lived and a legacy of love and laughter left behind. Her spirit will continue to light up the room through the memories we cherish and the stories we share.
