

Funeral services for Irene E. Scherer, 84, of Bettendorf will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 27th, 2016 at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary chapel in Davenport. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Buffalo, IA. The family will greet friends on Friday evening from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Irene passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Genesis Medical Center – East Campus in Davenport. Irene E. Willroth was born on July 26, 1931 in Buffalo, IA, the second daughter of Chrissie and Mary (Kaucher) Willroth. Following her graduation in 1950 from Buffalo High School, she completed her education at AIC Business School. On March 9, 1954, she married Edward W. Scherer in Davenport. He preceded her in death in 1978. For the majority of her life, Irene worked in bookkeeping and pay roll at McCarthy Improvement Company. After retiring, she began working at the Mississippi Valley Blood Center and was very active in volunteering at Winnie’s Wishes, the quilting circle at Grace Lutheran Church, and at CASI. In addition to being a member of Grace Lutheran Church, she was also a member of Women in Construction, and a recipient of the “Iowa Governor’s Award for Volunteerism.” She is survived by her Daughters: Sharon Scherer of Buffalo, IA, Kathy (Doug) Miller of Davenport; a Son: Gary (Lynn) Scherer of Blue Grass, IA; Sisters: Rhea Sherman of Eldridge, IA, Jacque (B.J.) Roy of Mammoth Spring, AR; 8 Grandchildren: Jesse (Pam) Carlson, Mary (Scott) Bauercamper, Aaron (Llanel) Scherer, Rebecca (Steve) Livingston, Lauren Miller, Benjamin (Jen) Scherer, Nicole Scherer, Kevin Miller; and 8 Great-Grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother in infancy, and a brother, Eugene Willroth. Memorials may be directed to Winnie’s Place or to Camp Courageous.
