Jack grew up in Davenport and attended Davenport High School, where he wrestled and advanced to the state level. He learned early the value of discipline, commitment, and perseverance — qualities that stayed with him throughout his life.
After high school, Jack proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, spending time overseas in Germany. His service was something he carried with pride, never one to boast, but always appreciative of the opportunity to serve.
When Jack returned home, he went to work — and stayed there. He spent more than 38 years at Oscar Mayer, eventually retiring after a long career built on showing up every day, working hard, and doing things the right way. He believed deeply in honest work and providing for his family.
Jack married Betty, the love of his life. Together they shared many years filled with laughter, travel, and companionship. Betty preceded him in death, and Jack missed her every day. One
of his favorite memories was bike riding with Betty at the campground, including their well-known tandem bicycle, a symbol of the life they built side by side.
Jack was a devoted father to Brian Greenlee and Jacklyn Greenlee (Dennis Kopp); a proud grandfather to Chelsea (fiancé Cody ) and Trent; and a loving great-grandfather to Myles and Mason — a role he cherished deeply. He found great joy in driving his grandchildren to sports practices and being present for the everyday moments that mattered most.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; and his siblings, Betty Brown, Scott Greenlee, Delores Fuller, and Ray Greenlee.
Jack had strong passions in life. St. Louis Cardinals baseball topped the list — games were to be watched in silence, no exceptions. He was also a loyal Green Bay Packers fan. Jack loved traveling across the country with his family, took great pride in maintaining his lawn and garden, and enjoyed the simple pleasure of grilling a well-done steak with A1 sauce, just the way he liked it.
Above all, Jack made it his purpose in life to provide for and do right by the people he loved. He was steady, loyal, and proud of the values he lived by and the life he worked hard to build.
Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, at Runge Mortuary and Crematory, with visitation from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by the funeral service.
