He was the amazing son of Mary Jane and Zach Holmlund and Nick Hoffman. He was a senior at Bettendorf High School and planned to attend the University of Iowa next fall. He was a great brother to his younger sister and older brothers. He truly loved his family and his dogs. But his precious life was unexpectedly cut far too short due to a medical condition on Thursday, September 5, 2024.
Jakob was a loyal and avid sports fan. He loved watching the Seattle Seahawks, Indiana Fever, Chicago Bulls, and UFC. But his favorites were the Bettendorf Bulldogs and Iowa Hawkeyes- he had black and gold running through his veins. He volunteered as a team manager for the Bettendorf Bulldogs Boys’ Varsity Basketball Team and also worked at Dick’s House of Sports in the footwear department.
Jakob was so resilient and had overcome many challenges he’d faced in life, and he never got discouraged. He was loving, kind, passionate, intelligent, genuine, and truly one of a kind. His smile was as effortless as it was infectious. He was a friend to so many and a stranger to few. He couldn’t go anywhere without running into someone he knew, and he’d always take the time for a conversation. It is apparent that he made an impact on anyone who knew him. He is going to be missed beyond measure.
Those left to cherish his memory are his parents, Mary Jane and Zachary Holmlund of Bettendorf, IA, and Nick Hoffman of Austin, TX; sister, Jillian Holmlund of Bettendorf, IA; brothers, Tyler Holmlund of Bettendorf, IA, and Cole Hoffman of Tiffin, IA; grandparents, George and Toni Hallas of Bettendorf, IA, Jim and Jonell Hoffman of Coal Valley, IL, Dan and Kris Robinson of Bettendorf, IA, and Scott Holmlund of Bettendorf, IA; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by an aunt; an uncle; a grandmother; and his beloved dog, Chewy.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at the Runge Mortuary from 3:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to disperse to causes meaningful to Jakob. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at the Tanglewood Hills Pavilion while the Iowa Hawkeyes are playing. More details for the Celebration of Life will be announced closer to the date.
