James "Hardroc' Mckary Bailey, age 58, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, in the comfort of his own home. James attended Central High School and was a graduate of Kirkwood Community College. He dedicated more than 30 years of his life to working as a machine specialist and proudly spent the last 12 years of his career at UniParts Olsen Engineering.
James was a devoted family man who truly lived life on his own terms. He loved fishing, camping, sports, playing basketball at the YMCA and Friendly House, and riding around town in his old school or in his Hummer. He was a proud Dallas Cowboys fan, and you better believe he never missed a chance to talk about it! More than anything, he loved to travel and make memories with his wife, children and the ones that he loved.
At home, James found joy in the little things, especially being right by his wife’s side in the kitchen as her sous chef, where there was always food, laughter, and love. His greatest joy was his children and grandchildren. He taught them many valuable life lessons that they will carry with them throughout life. They were his world, and he made sure they knew it every single day.
Known to many as “Uncle Jimmy or Hardroc" James never met a stranger. Everyone who crossed his path felt his presence. He had a big personality, quick with a joke, always talking a little smack, and keeping people laughing, but behind that was someone who loved deeply and stood ten toes down for the people he cared about. Whether you were his flesh and blood or not, if he claimed you, you knew he had your back, and you had his. James had a way of making people feel seen, welcomed, and loved. He wasn’t someone you simply met, he was someone you experienced, and once you did, you carried him with you.
James was preceded in death by Hano Bailey III; Damien Howard; Victoria Jones (mother); Dane Howard; Hano Bailey IV; Therisa Bailey; Antonio Bailey and Damien French.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa Liddell Bailey; his children, Devaris Liddell, Damarcus Liddell, Erwin King, Antonika Shears, Anthony Shears, Jamezaria Bailey, James Bailey Jr., and Javonte Bailey; his siblings, Angelique Abbey Lewis; Arthur Abbey (Erica); Dennis (Annie) Bailey; Faith Bailey; Hano Bailey III; Justin Bailey Shaw; MaryAnn Bailey Shaw; Victoria Bailey; Billy (William) Bailey; Clarence Bailey; Juanita Bailey Shaw; Daine Bailey Rogers; Archie Butler (Lamont); Archieona French; Felicia French; Tamara French; TeNeka (Jerry) Hayes; Quinton Howard; Shavanity Howard; Jessie “John” Jackson Jr.; Tonya Mosley; Archie Rogers Jr. (Carolyn); Joseph Rogers; Rhonda Rogers; Kizzy Rogers Bateman; his uncle; Luther Mckay Bailey; his beloved 26 grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
