James D. Carpenter

Funeral services for James D. Carpenter, 67, of Bettendorf, IA, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2010 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Davenport. Interment with military honors will follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island, IL. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary in Davenport. Mr. Carpenter died on Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at his home.James Dean Carpenter was born in Davenport on March 30, 1942, the son of Euwell and Alice (Meyer) Carpenter. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. In 1972, he married Judith Ann Sayler in Bettendorf, IA. Mr. Carpenter served as a firefighter and later Chief Fire Marshall for the Davenport Fire Department. He retired in 1998, following 32 years of service to the city.He is survived by his Wife: Judith Carpenter of Bettendorf; two Daughters: Pam Courtney and fiance Kevin of DeWitt, IA, Kathy (Steve) Seeber of Gurnee, IL; five Sisters: Joyce (Merle) Coy, Marilyn (Vern) Hagen, Lana (Dale) Mirr, Barbara (Bob) Short, Delores (Ray) Wilson; two Brothers: Al (Jenny) Carpenter, Carmen (Judy) Carpenter; 5 grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria.Memorials may be directed to the Davenport Fire Department Honor Guard.
