

James Steffen, 83, of Davenport passed away on Friday, December 11, 2015 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Per his wishes, cremation rights have been accorded and there will be no services or visitation at this time. Cunnick - Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.James Steffen was born on October 4, 1932 in Wilton Junction, the son of Lester and Viola (Swim) Steffen. He was united in marriage to Delma Mae Jugenheimer on December 27, 1953. The couple raised their family on an acreage near Mt. Joy, IA. They later resided in Davenport. Jim graduated from Davenport High School and later from Iowa State University. He worked as a mechanical engineer for Kartridg Pak, Davenport for 24 years. During these years, he earned a pilot’s license and enjoyed flying in the area. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Jim belonged to the Eldridge Sportsman Club, excelling at trap shooting. He and his wife owned a cabin on the Wapsi River for many years, sharing it with relatives and their children, and as well as their children’s teenage friends. Catfish was on the menu almost daily. Jim loved boating and over the years had owned several boats, meeting with friends on the Mississippi River beach.Jim was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport.Survivors include his Wife of 61 years, Delma “Dee” of Davenport; Son, John Steffen of East Moline; Daughter, Dorothy (Charles) Shogren of Aiken, SC; 2 Grandchildren and 2 Great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents.Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to King’s Harvest Pet Rescue, Davenport.
