

Cremation will be done with a memorial Mass to be held 11:00 am Saturday, December 13, 2025 at our Lady of Victory Catholic Church Davenport. The family will greet friends 1 hour prior to mass at the church. Memorials may be made to the church. Please share condolences with the family at www.rungemortuary.com.
Jean was born October 20, 1941, in Marshalltown, IA to Harold & Helen (Melton) Bailey. She was united in marriage to Frederick Kono on June 8, 1963, in Marshalltown, IA. Jean was a 1962 graduate of the former Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse in hospitals in Cedar Rapids and Davenport. In 1978 she graduated of the former Marycrest College with her certification in psychiatric nursing and began working at Vera French and then Mercy Hospital Davenport. She went on to be a clinical instructor with Scott Community College until she retired in 2006.
Jean was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church Davenport. In 2019 she was honored with the “QC Whos Who” Women of influence award by the Quad City Business Journal. Earlier in life she had been a bowler, she enjoyed stamping & making cards, sewing, quilting, flowers, & watch the birds. Here grand daughters were the loves of her life.
Survivors include her husband, Fred Kono; son Matthew Kono, Davenport; daughter Kristine Knox, Hixson, TN; 3 grand daughters Madison, Samantha, & Victoria Knox; sister Patricia (Richard) Ewalt Marshalltown, IA; and 8 nieces & nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents.
