

Born in Bawjiase, Central Region, Ghana, John began his educational journey at Mpaem in the Kwahu area, Eastern Region, and later moved to Tema, where he completed his Middle School education at Aggrey Road. He pursued technical education and learned the trade of sewing.
John's life was transformed when he accepted Christ at First Baptist Church, Tema, where he became an active member, serving in various capacities, including the Youth group and Choir. His passion for evangelism led him to travel to several African countries and overseas.
In 1992, John joined the Mercy Ship and relocated to the United States, settling in Lindale, Texas. He later moved to Chicago, where he continued his outreach work, including serving at Uptown Baptist Church and the Interfaith Center for the Homeless.
John is survived by his wife, Florence, and children Lydia Amissah-Harris (Cory Harris), Rebecca Amissah, and John Amissah Jr., as well as a granddaughter, Gianna Harris, and a sister, Joyce Baiden Amissah. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Baiden Amissah and Grace Arhinful, his brothers and sister.
A kind-hearted and visionary leader, John was a discipler, encourager, and servant to the homeless and needy. He founded the African Leadership Coalition and co-founded the Association of Ghanaian Baptists Overseas (AGBO) and North America Baptist Association (NABA).
Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at House of the Lord Church in Davenport, IA. Visitation will be held an hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support the ministries of First Baptist Church, Tema, or the Interfaith Center for the Homeless.
