

Funeral services for John R. Carter, 85, of Davenport will be 10:30 am on Tuesday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion #26. Family will greet friends on Monday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Mortuary. John passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at the Davenport Lutheran Home after an extended illness of Lewy Body Dementia. John R. Carter was born on July 26, 1929 in Streater, IL, the son of Raymond and Mary (Poulk) Carter. He married Jacqueline M. Hogan on August 8, 1952 in Davenport. John worked at Elliott Aviation and later at John Deere Aviation as an aircraft Technician over 20 yrs. He retired in 1992. He had served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a Staff Sgt., and was honorably discharged in October of 1952. He then served in the reserves for 14 yrs as a Master Sgt. John was a member of the Deere Retirees, and Gold Wing Road Riders Association,(G.W.R.R.A.). His interest include the Mississippi Valley Remote Control Boat Club, Air Shows and RV Clubs. He enjoyed his Shih-tzu dogs, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. After retiring he enjoyed being known as Happy Johns Delivery Service for North Brady Import Repair.Survivors include his Wife, Jacqueline of Davenport, daughters; Sheila (Terrance) Ryan, Constance (Robert) Bleuer, Sandra (Steven) Fischlein, son; John (Darcy) Carter, all of Davenport. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, and sons, Bernard and Brian.The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Country Manor and Davenport Lutheran Home for their care and compassion during John’s illness.
