Services with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31st in Davenport Memorial Park where he will be laid to rest.
John was born on February 13, 1932 to Sidney and Margaret (Creasy) Chapin in McGregor, Iowa. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the US Air Force and served from 1950 to 1954 with honors. He was employed by the Rock Island Arsenal as an electrician for more than 25 years until his retirement.
John enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He was a Mason and belonged to the Quad City Bass Club.
He is survived by his sons, Terry Chapin who lives in Kentucky and Alan Chapin in Blue Grass; daughters, Patricia Lee of Cedar Falls and Debra (Charles) Fontana who lives in Florida; and a brother, Richard (Patricia) Chapin who live in Mississippi; along with eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Nettie Joyce, his wife Joann, daughter Barbara, son Michael, and brothers William and James.
