John H. Posey Sr.

Funeral services for John H. Posey Sr., 84, of Davenport, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2014 at the Progressive Baptist Church in Davenport. Burial with military honors will follow at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.John Harrison Posey Sr. was born on June 28, 1929 in Crawfordsville, AR, the son of Roosevelt and Mary Alice (Walker) Posey. After high school graduation, Mr. Posey joined the United States Navy serving his commitment throughout the end of WWII and then re-enlisted joining the United States Marine Corp, serving during peacetime between the Korean Conflict and the war in Viet Nam.John married Ethel L. Lewis in Arkansas and later married Beulah B. Williams on May 9, 1957 in Rock Island, Il. He was employed for 38 years at the Rock Island Arsenal as a machine inspector retiring in 1987. He was a founding and very active member of the Progressive Baptist Church in Davenport, the NAACP, he enjoyed bowling, was a past member of the Hiram Masonic Lodge, and, was known throughout the Quad City area working as a private bartender, catering many private parties and large corporate events.Surviving members of the family include – his Wife: Beulah; 3 Daughters: Deborah Green and Regina (James) Stokes both of Davenport, and Inetta Posey of Stevens Point, WI; 2 Sons: Frank (Mary) Posey of Milwaukee, WI, and John (Lora) Posey Jr. of Coralville, IA; 1 Sister Mary Taylor of Chicago, IL; 3 Brothers: William Posey and Luther Posey both of Davenport, and Eddie (Genise) Posey of Houston, TX; 5 Grandchildren: Jonathon, James, Javon, Sierra, and Kennedy, and 3 Great-Grandchildren.Mr. Posey was preceded in death by his grandparents: William and Etta Walker, his parents: Roosevelt and Mary Alice, and a Brother: Walker.Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
