Services will be Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 2 pm at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12 pm until 2 pm at the mortuary. Joy was born October 9, 1931 in Staten Island, NY. She was the daughter of Erling and Alice (Moe) Lorentzen. She grew up in New York and started her career doing office work. Joy was a professional seamstress for various laundry cleaners throughout the Davenport area and even made her own children’s clothes including wedding dresses. She was a long time member of TOPS and also belonged to the Sons of Norway for many years. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Rock Island. She loved going to the casinos and garage sales and helped deliver Meals on Wheels. She also loved gardening, especially flowers.
She married Robert Sweetland in 1952, they later divorced. Joy then married Parley Sweetland on October 3, 1959. He preceded her in death on September 7, 2001.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Marie (Bob) McNichols, Davenport, Carol Imhof and her partner Al Masseth, Phoenix, AZ, Robin (Rick) Bourn, Greenwood, IN, Scott, Rock Island, Keith, Davenport and Tim , Carlinville, IL; seven grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter, brother, Peter (Beverly) Lorentzen, Minnesota and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joy was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Niccole Helene.
