Karen was born March 2, 1946, to Clarence and Mabel (Whitaker) Everett in Quincy, IL. On May 26, 1962, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, William “Bill” Kranz. They celebrated 60 years of marriage until his passing in 2023. Karen worked as a teacher’s aide at Madison Elementary in Davenport and retired as a supervisor from Scott County Juvenile Detention Center after 18 years of service.
She was a Past Supreme of the Daughters of Mokanna and in early years entertained in their clown troop at various functions and parades. Karen and her late husband Bill loved spending their time in the summer months volunteering to support neighborhood kids in Central Davenport Little League. From concession stands to working on the fields, they took great pride in being part of such a worthy organization.
Karen devoted her time and efforts to many nonprofit organizations. She volunteered at the Quad City Veterans Outreach Center and the Women’s Domestic Violence Center. She was an avid Cubs fan who loved sewing and quilting. Karen enjoyed every opportunity to gift her handmade treasurers and to teach these crafts to others.
Above all she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished the time she spent with them.
Those left to honor her memory include her sons, William (Tracie) Kranz, Jr. and James Kranz; brother, Gary (Dena) Everett; grandsons, Jeremy (Christina) Crocker and William Kranz III; granddaughters, Amanda Crocker and Abigayle (Joe) Lafrenz; and great-grandsons, Oliver Crocker and Ford Lafrenz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and daughter, Shelley Kranz.
