Born on April 13, 1944, in Davenport, IA, Larry lived a life of purpose, loyalty, and quiet strength. A celebrated athlete in his youth, he made his mark early at Davenport Central High School, where he wore the Blue Devil uniform with pride. A Blue Devil for life, he not only excelled as a student-athlete but returned to his alma mater as a dedicated teacher and coach, serving generations of students in the very halls and on the same fields where his own journey began. His commitment to the school and its community spanned decades, leaving a legacy of excellence, mentorship, and heart.
He was a devoted husband to Rosalie (Pat), a loving father to Lance (Jerilyn), Anne (Francis), and Michael (Sandra), a proud grandfather to Logan, Ashten, Francis, Michael, and Nora, and a joyful great-grandfather to Leighton and Sophie. His family was the center of his world—a source of pride and endless joy.
A lifelong fisherman, Larry found comfort and clarity on the water. He cherished the quiet moments by the lake, the thrill of the catch, and the company of those who shared his love for the outdoors. He believed fishing wasn’t just a pastime—it was a way to connect, reflect, and find peace.
To his friends, he was unwavering—a fierce friend in every sense. Loyal, dependable, and always in your corner, he showed up when it mattered most and left a lasting impact on anyone fortunate enough to know him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Edna; his in-laws, Donald and Norma Schreiber; son, Michael; brother-in-law, Larry Schreiber; and sister-in-law, Sandy Schreiber.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on Friday, June 6th at St. Paul the Apostle in Davenport. Visitation is from 9:00 to 10:30 with the service to follow. A luncheon will be held following the mass. All are welcome to attend and share stories, memories, and the legacy of a man who gave his all to his family, his students, his teammates, and his community. Instead of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Davenport Central Boosters.
His presence will be missed, but his legacy will remain—in every athlete who plays with heart, every student who dares to try, and every friend who knows what it means to be supported.
Hail to the Red and Blue!
