LaVerne “Butch” Arp, 78, of Walcott, IA, passed away Monday, March 14, 2022 at home. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 18, at Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., also at the Weerts Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Walcott Lion’s Club or the Walcott Fire Department. Butch was born September 24, 1943, to Alvin and Lenora (Meyer) Arp in Davenport. He proudly served in the U.S Army in Korea from 1966 to 1968. Butch attended the University of Iowa where he earned his B.B.S. He was a lifelong farmer that also worked in accounting for HON Industries in Muscatine for 13 years, as well as part time for Eagle Foods Warehouse for 10 years. Butch was a longtime member of the Lion’s Club of Walcott, where he volunteered many hours and won several awards throughout the years. He devoted a lot of time screening kids for Iowa KidSight. Butch also served his church, Coram Deo Bible Church and assisted at Trinity Hospitals in Bettendorf and Rock Island. He enjoyed bowling and playing fast pitch softball. His talent for fast pitch softball earned him a spot in the ISC Softball Hall of Fame. Butch assisted as a chaperone for the QC Honor Flight for several years and eventually went on the Honor Flight himself as an Army veteran.
Butch will be missed by his sister, Sandy Roehlk; niece, Robbi Roehlk; nephews: Tim (Dana) Roehlk, Todd (Beth) Roehlk; great nieces: Tori & Jeramie; great nephew, Cameron; great great niece Hadleigh, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother in infancy.
