

Lewis “Lew” Langworthy Whittemore Jr., 88, of Davenport, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017 at St. Mary’s Heath Care, Davenport. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, September 21,2017 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to The United Way, Wounded Warrior Project, or National Wildlife Federation. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Lew was born on January 7, 1929 in Gloucester, MA, the son of Lewis and Mary (Parsons) Whittemore, Sr. He was united in marriage to Gloria Prosser on August 9, 1952 in Rock Island, IL. She preceded him in death on November 27, 2006. Lew was an Army veteran during the Korean conflict. He was employed by MidAmerican Energy Company for 23 years retiring on February 1, 1991. He was also a usher for the I Wireless and for the Iowa Hawkeye Games. Lew enjoyed traveling all across the US, especially west. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Circle Tap and The Gardens. He had a passion for golf and volunteered for the Hardee’s Golf Classic, John Deere Golf Classic and The Bix 7 Race. Lew also enjoyed his Thursday golf games with his work friends. He had a giving spirit and would give back to his community through volunteer work. Those left to honor his memory include, children Michael (Jolene) Whittemore, and Kevin Whittemore; grandchildren Nathan, Michelle, and Joseph, three great grandchildren Andrew, Olivia and Josie; brother Fred (Darilynn) Whittemore; and sister-in-law Cheryl (Bill) Collins. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Gloria.
