Lorraine Marie Sewick

Lorraine Marie Sewick, 77, passed away on March 5, 2023 at Genesis Medical Center. Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Online condolences and fond memories may be shared with the family at www.weertsfh.com

Lorraine (Peterson) Sewick was born on February 27, 1946 to Harriet (Fries) and Reynold Peterson. Lorraine graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts in 1968. She married Rex Sewick in 1969 and he tragically passed shortly after in 1975. Lorraine taught third graders at Wilson Elementary School for 30 years, eventually retiring in 2003.

Despite her retirement, Lorraine remained active with many organizations throughout her lifetime. She was an officer in the Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher’s Sorority, where she attended regional conventions and went on trips during the summer. She was active in DARSPA, a teacher retirement group. She helped co-found the Davenport School Museum. Lorraine also served her community as an election judge. Lorraine was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Davenport, often serving as an usher. She was also a member of the Mohassan Caldron, a Masonic group. Lorraine spent her retirement traveling, attending Hawkeye games, and enjoying her friends’ company with card games. She held a special place in her heart for her cats.

Those left to honor her memory include her siblings, Alan Peterson of Alexandria, VA, Peggy Baack of Denver, CO, Donald Peterson of Naperville, IL and a host of nieces and nephews.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Rex Sewick.

Lorraine will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
