

A memorial service celebrating the life of Louis “Ted” Shepherd, Jr., 69, of Davenport will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Davenport. A time of gathering with family and friends will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Thomasville, Georgia. Following Ted's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Ted died Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center – West Campus, Davenport from pulmonary fibrosis. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service assisted the family with arrangements. Ted was born in Thomasville, GA on January 12, 1944, the son and only child of Louis T. and Anna (Andrews) Shepherd Sr. He graduated from Thomasville High School in 1962 and earned a BA and MA from Florida State University. Ted was employed for over 34 years by Bituminous Insurance Co., was a member of the 20 Year Club and retired in December 2007 as Senior Administrative Analyst. Ted was a rare person, interested in and knowledgeable about much, especially English history and royal family lore. He was an interesting and challenging intellectual and a man of integrity, honesty, and sometimes sharp truth telling. He was also a confidence keeper and a true friend. Those left to honor Ted's memory are his Cousin: June Andrews Stewart of Ft. Myers, FL and her Children, Bill, Cathy and Tom; his Friend like a brother: Philip Wertz of Thomasville; and close, close friends and fine neighbors who will really miss his presence and “presents” in their lives. His parents preceded him in death. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Episcopal Cathedral or WVIK, Augustana Public Radio, Rock Island, IL.
