M. Ruth Underwood

Funeral services for M. Ruth Underwood, 87, of Davenport will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday at New Life Baptist Church in Davenport. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Underwood went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Center in Davenport. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements. M. Ruth Chesnut was born on December 12, 1928 in Burlington, IA, the daughter of Robert and Effie (Wills) Chesnut. On May 14, 1944, she married Ralph Underwood in Burlington. He preceded her in death in 1989. Mrs. Underwood worked in food service for the Davenport School System until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of New Life Baptist Church. She is survived by a Daughter: Connie (Greg) Richards of Davenport; three Sons: Jack (Gloria) Underwood of Davenport, Terry (Sherrie) Underwood of Davenport, Steve (Carla) Underwood of Milan, IL; Sisters: Emily (Duane) Peel of Denmark, IA, Dorothy Wolfe of Middleton, IA; Brothers: Robert (Virginia) Chesnut of Burlington, IA, Richard (Lorraine) Chesnut of Florida; 14 Grandchildren, more than 25 Great-Grandchildren, and 3 Great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son: Ron Underwood; and brother-in-law: Harold Wolfe. Memorials may be directed to New Life Baptist Church.
