Maggie was born and raised in Clinton, IA. She graduated from Davenport Central High and took several classes at the University of Iowa, St. Ambrose and Scott Community College. She married Douglas Van Damme Sr. in 1964 and from the marriage she had three children: Wendy Renee, Douglas Dorn (Joan) Van Damme and Stacy Lynn (Don Hancock). She later married the love of her life, James Raymond McIntosh in 1974. She told her niece, Debra McKittrick, coming home from their first date that she was going to marry him. Their love for one another was a storybook fairytale. Though their marriage was ended way too soon with James’s death in 1985, her love never ended for him. Her son, Douglas gave her one grandson, Shadoe James Van Damme and her daughter, Stacy, gave her three grandchildren: Stephenie Ann, Christopher Andrew and Alyssa Lynn. Maggie’s greatest love was her grandchildren. Some of her best times were spent shopping with Stephenie, cooking meals for Christopher, eating at Biaggi’s with Alyssa and going to visit Shadoe. She was the youngest born and had many brothers and sisters. You could find her having lunch with her sister, Esther Smith at one of the casinos. You would hear her talk of missing her sister, Carol Blaylock in Arizona and missing the yearly scavenger hunts they had. She had many talents, the best being baking. Everyone always said no one could make sugar cookies or cheesecakes like her. She had many interests including traveling on day trips; shopping at Von Maur; playing bingo andenjoying movies as long as it kept her interest passed twenty minutes; her favorite being Planes, Trains & Automobiles and Murphy’s Romance. We are left with memories of Sunday night dinners, Christmas Eve tins; watching Golden Girl reruns and her love of Kenny Rogers and Journey.
