Margaret E. Smith, 79, of Davenport, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospital. Funeral service to honor her memory will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024 at 12pm at Christ Methodist Church, Davenport; friends may call upon the family starting at 10am until time of service. Burial will be at Oakdale Memorial Gardens following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Margert's name may be made to Christ Church School Partnership Fund.
Margaret was born on October 30, 1944 in Cumberland, MD to Donald and Kathryn Tabler. She was united in marriage to William Alan Smith on February 20, 1977 in Alexandria, VA. Margaret and Alan traveled extensively for work, they lived in Texas, Louisiana, Iowa, and even Germany (twice). Margaret was a substitute teacher at the Department of Defense Schools in Germany and as a secretary for the Department of Defense at the Rock Island Arsenal. She was an active member at the Christ Methodist Church and attended many Bible Studies. Margaret loved to cook, read, and spend time with her beloved family.
Those left to carry on Margaret’s memory are her husband of 47 years, Alan; son James (Debbie) Smith; grandchildren Nathan and Emily; and her brother Donald Tabler.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Diane Downton.
