Maria was born in Zwickau, Germany, on May 30, 1933, to Martha and Klemens Lauter. She was united in marriage to Virgil Dale Moffitt on December 17, 1956, who preceded her in death in 1974. She later found happiness with John R. Carlson, for 32 years, who preceded her in death in 2020.
Maria worked as an accountant for many years at Illinois Growth Enterprises. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, shopping, attending flea markets, and going to breakfast with John.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Karin F. Morgan and Joan M. (Sue) Harrington; grandchildren: Ron Barton, Melinda Barton, Christa Payne, and Amanda Natzke; and many great and great-great grandchildren.
