Services will be Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 10 a.m. at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the mortuary. Her final resting place will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may go to Genesis Visiting Nurses.
Marilyn was born in Davenport on March 4, 1932, a daughter of Harry and Katherine (Moore) Haiston. On October 22, 1955, she married James “Jim” Geerts in Davenport. He preceded her in death on September 25, 2020. She worked for Von Maur for 11 years. She also served as a respite volunteer.
In earlier years, Marilyn and Jim enjoyed bowling and square dancing. In 2000, the couple moved to Jacksonville, FL and in 2015, returned to the Quad Cities to be closer to family. Faith was very important to her and she attended several area Catholic churches over the years. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, word search puzzles, but most of all, spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by daughters, RosAnne “Rose” (Joe) Stark, Lascassas, TN and Cynthia “Cindy” (David) Hannum, Pasco, WA; sons, Joseph “Joe” (Barb) Geerts, Davenport and Gerald “Jerry” Geerts, Granbury, TX; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis (Dave) Gould, Bettendorf, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, Marilyn was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey; daughter-in-law, Jeri Geerts; siblings, Richard “Red” Haiston and Karen Staub.
