A memorial service will be hold on Monday, November 15, 2021 at 2 p.m. at The Runge Mortuary. Her final resting place will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be made at www.rungemortuary.com.
Marlene was born June 1, 1932 in New Liberty, IA, the daughter of Frank and Florence H. (Fahrenkrug) Meewes. She married Donald Colbert on December 16, 1950 in Davenport. He preceded her in death on September 21, 2011. In her earlier years, she enjoyed spending time with her cat, Oreo, gardening reading Mary Higgins Clark books and watching old Western movies. She had been a member of the Danish Sisterhood Lodge #3. She had worked at the Kahl Home from 1972 until 1994 when she retired. After retiring, her and her husband enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and assisted in taking care of the home in Eldora, Iowa featured in the movie, “Twister,” which belonged to a family friend.
Those left to honor her memory include her children: Raymond, Davenport, Sharon (Tom) Miller, East Moline and Donald, Bettendorf, grandchildren: Jeremy (Becky) Farnum, Brian D. Lamb, Kelly Colbert and Brenda Colbert, 9 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Marlene was preceded in death by a son, Randy on June 19, 1999, brother, Delmar (Lucy) Meewes and sister, Jean (Elmer) Mueller, and her beloved cat, Sammy.
