

Born May 21, 1927 to C. Bruce Bickle and Louise Schoening in Clinton, Iowa. She graduated from the then Lyns High School and went on to attend Coe College in Cedar Rapids.
In 1948, she married Dr. David J. Carstensen and upon completion of dental school at the University of Iowa, they moved to Davenport. Mr. Carstensen started an orthodontic practice in Davenport, which he operated for 30 years. Mary and Dave raised three sons, David Bruce, Robert Lawrence and John Charles.
A devoted mother who tirelessly nurtured her flock, a living example of all that’s good and right in this world.
A true artist, delighting all with her delicious cooking/baking, fine stitchery and creative craft work. Her creativity never waned with projects at hand and ever more contemplated. With a zest for life Mary loved to read, golf, play bridge, chat with family and friends and travel abroad….just to name a few.
A woman of faith….effortlessly embodying Christian values. A volunteer of 40 years at Genesis Hospital.
She is survived by her two sons; two grandsons, Patrick Carstensen and his wife Jessica of Grimes, IA and Connor Carstensen of Adel, IA; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Jens Carstensen and son, David Bruce.
As to her wishes she is to be cremated and a private family service later. Any memorial will be to Our Lady of the River Catholic Church, 28200 226th Street Place, LeClaire, Iowa 52753, or UnityPoint Hospice – Quad Cities, 106 19th Ave. Ste. 101, Moline, IL.
