

Mary Kathryn “Shatzie” Saul-Speak, 92, of Davenport, died on February 13, 2026. Per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, at Weerts Funeral Home. The service will be the same day, starting at 4:00 p.m. Memorials may be left to Scott County Humane Society.
Mary was born on November 20, 1933, in Dubuque, IA, to parents Carl and Evelyn (Stillmunkes) Schrup. She attended a Catholic girl’s school and went on to get her bachelor’s in journalism at St. Ambrose University, graduating in 1979. Her career was in clerical work, working at the Davenport Police Department, Eagle Signal, and Audio Visual Electronics. She enjoyed ceramics, stamp collecting, drinking coffee, and reading the newspaper.
Mary is survived by her children, Terrence Saul, Judith Frakes, William (Deb) Saul, Mary Fell, James Saul, Diane McKim, Jaqueline (Wes) Brake, Robert (Tari) Saul, and Gregory Saul; her stepchildren, Jeff Speak, Adam Speak, and Sara (Scott) Bratton; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She is preceded by her parents, Carl and Evelyn Schrup; her first husband, William Saul; her second husband, James Speak; and her siblings, Sally Ryan, DeeDee Stieber, Karen Pauly, Arlie Runde, Dorothy Brown, Rita Palen, and Elizabeth Schrup.
