Melvin D. Sims

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 12:00 pm at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be two hours prior to service time. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Melvin was born June 5, 1937 in Longmont, Colorado to Theodore and Gladys Sims. He was united in marriage to Lenora Sims on November 16, 1978 in Moline. They enjoyed 35 years of marriage until her passing in 2014.

He had worked 32 years for Wonder Bread Bakery prior to his retirement in 1997. Melvin enjoyed tinkering around with anything that he could fix, work on or build. He also enjoyed saw milling, woodworking and spending time with his family.

Those left to honor his memory include his children: Tina Marie (Greg) Steinbeck, Sherry Upton, Patricia (Larry) Atwood, Darl (Steve) George, and Donna (Brian) McDonnell; along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and siblings: Betty Karr, Sharon Seemann, Hazel Thompson, Charles Sims, Glen Sims, and Gary Sims.

Melvin is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; sons, Charles Sims, Melvin D. Sims II, Mitchell Emerson, and David Emerson; and siblings, Kenneth Sims and Floyd Sims.
