A Celebration of his life for the public will be Friday, February 28, 2025 from 4 pm until 8 pm at The Runge Mortuary. His final resting place will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Michael was born in Iowa City on November 19, 1968. He was the son of Don and Susie (Walker) Banks. He graduated from Pleasant Valley High School in 1987. While in his senior year, Michael started his Navy career with the Great Lakes Training Station Illinois. He went on to serve for 11 years during Desert Storm on the USS Robison out of San Diego. He was a DC12 which worked with damage control and underwater welding and was a winter-over fire chief at McMurdo Station for all over Antarctica.
Upon his return from the Navy, he taught damage control at the Great Lakes Training Facility until his retirement. He then received his real estate license and together with his mom, worked for ReMax River Cities. He later became the President of the QC Area Realtor’s Association in 2011. Most recently, he worked as a sales representative for MidAmerica Basement Systems in Davenport.
He loved to boat on the Mississippi, snowmobile, snow ski and working on cars. He was a NASCAR enthusiast who loved Jeff Gordon. He was a talented welder and enjoyed working with his hands. He also served on the Coal Valley Fire Department and especially enjoyed his dog, Nala.
Those left to honor his memory include his son, Shane Banks, Bettendorf; parents, Don and Susie Banks, Bettendorf; fiancé, Lisa Bierman, Coal Valley, Il; brother, Rod Banks, TN and his daughter Charli Jo; niece Heather (Kain) Kormann of Blue Grass and their children, Karter and Kaylee; sister-in-law, Darci Banks of Cape Coral, FL; and his beloved dog, Nala; along with many extended family members including aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brother Dick, uncles: Buddy Walker and Bill Banks and cousin, Kelly Lick.
