

Mildred Carol “Millie” Lawrence, 85, of Davenport died on Friday, November 11, 2016 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. A private family inurnment will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements. Mildred Carol Spangler was born on March 10, 1931 in Morrison, IL, the daughter of Ray and Ethel (Ferguson) Spangler. In 1945, she graduated from Erie High School and continued her education at American Institute of Commerce (AIC). She met Lyman Lawrence on a bus while he was serving in the United States Army, and they later married on July 12, 1951. Millie worked at the Blackhawk Hotel following her graduation from AIC. She then worked as a contract specialist at the U.S. Army Armament Material Readiness Command (ARRCOM) at Rock Island Arsenal for 20 years prior to her retirement in 1985. Millie was awarded “Boss of the Year” in 1977, the first year the award had ever been given. Aside from being an avid Green Bay Packer fan, she was a devoted wife, mother, and mother-in-law. Millie was a loving soul, always thinking of others. She is survived by her Husband: Lyman Lawrence of Davenport; and a Son: Curtis (Kathy) Lawrence of Davenport. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Lawrence; sister, Verna Pace; brothers: Howard, Leland, Lenard, and Harold. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Manor Care - Utica Ridge and to Jersey Ridge Place (assisted living) for the exceptional care and compassion they gave to Millie.
