

Funeral services for Olga L. Behning, 99, of Davenport will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 13, 2009 at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel in Davenport. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Mrs. Behning died on Monday, November 9, 2009 in Rockford, IL while visiting her daughter.Olga Lillian Pieper was born on June 18, 1910 in Davenport, IA, the daughter of William and Susanna (Stein) Pieper. On January 16, 1927, she was united in marriage to John L. Behning in Davenport. He preceded her in death in 1962.In her earlier years, Olga worked at the former “Crooks Laundry, the button factory, “Kresge’s Dime Store” on 2nd, and several local groceries including: “Cal & Bob’s”, A & P, Giefman’s, Piggley Wiggley and also the former “Toy Fair” at Duck Creek Plaza. She volunteered as a “Gray Lady” at the former Davenport Osteopathic Hospital and also served as a “Blue Bird” and “Camp Fire Girl” leader as well. She was better known to all of her family and friends as “Grandma B.”She was happiest while living at Leisure Lake in Bernard, IA with her daughter and best friend Pat. For 25 years they enjoyed feeding the animals, deer, birds, and cats, and there was always something cooking or baking when you went for a visit. She and Pat both loved to sew and worked as a team crafting Humpty Dumpty’s and Raggy Ann dolls. The biggest she ever made were just over 6 feet tall. Olga and Pat also collected Barbie Dolls for many years and had a very large collection of porcelain dolls that they provided clothing for. She had traveled to over 40 different states, Canada and Mexico, and has even ridden on a submarine with her grandson, Mike while stationed in New London, CT. She and Pat were best of friends until her death in May of this year. They are now together again.Those left to honor her memory include: 4 Daughters: Jackie Miller of Davenport, Sandi Frisch of Walcott, DeAnne (Dick) Graydon of Rockford, IL, and Dot (Dan) Sundholm of Davenport; 4 Sons: John (Elaine) Behning of LeHigh Acres, FL, Bob (Dee) Behning of Blue Grass, IA, Jerry (Cheryl) Behning of Donahue, IA, and Tom (Linda) Behning of LeClaire, IA; 29 Grandchildren; 51 Great-grandchildren; and 18 Great-great-grandchildren.
