Peggy Jean Henderson, 88, of Davenport, Iowa, peacefully transitioned surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy that will forever live in the hearts of those she touched. Her funeral service will be held on Friday, April 3, at 12:00 p.m. at Weerts Funeral Home.
Born on February 10, 1938, in Sturgeon, Missouri, to Molly (Harvey) Lee and William Lee, Peggy Jean Henderson was a woman of unwavering strength, deep love, and undeniable presence. She was strong, strict, loving, funny, and feisty—a rare combination that made her unforgettable to all who knew her.
Peggy was more than a woman—she was the foundation, the matriarch, the heartbeat of her family. She carried generations on her shoulders with grace and resilience, shaping lives through her wisdom, her discipline, and her unconditional love. Her home was a place where love lived, where laughter echoed, and where no one ever left without being fed—both in spirit and at her table.
She dedicated her career as the Head Laundry Aide at Handicapped Development Center, where her work ethic and care for others reflected the same compassion she poured into her family every single day. Outside of work, Peggy found her greatest joy in bringing people together. Whether it was through her cooking, family gatherings, or heartfelt conversations, she had a gift for making everyone feel like they belonged. Her wisdom guided many, her strength inspired all, and her love held the family together through every season of life.
Peggy leaves behind a powerful legacy through her children: Deborah Benson (Alexander) of Dallas, Texas; Cynthia LeBlanc (Michael Bateman) of Davenport, Iowa; Margaret Seales (Hubert John Paul) of Indianapolis, Indiana; Latonya Henderson (Henry Davis) of Davenport, Iowa; Jared McPike (Bridget) of Columbia, Missouri, and Emon Henderson (Angie) of Columbia, Missouri.
She is also lovingly remembered by her 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of family and loved ones whose lives were forever changed by her presence.
She was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother Clifton Harvey; her mother Molly Pauline Lee; her father William Lee; her siblings Clementina Henderson, Mary Lee, Louise Curtis, Ross Hayes, and Ann Thomas; her grandson Snoop; and her special friend Melvin McPike.
Though our hearts are heavy beyond words, we find peace in knowing that she has earned her rest. A woman who gave so much, loved so deeply, and stood so strong now rests in eternal peace. Her voice, her laughter, her lessons, and her love will echo through generations.
Her legacy is not just remembered—it lives on in every life she touched, every value she instilled, and every piece of love she left behind.
