Phillip D. Stick, 66, of Davenport, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Genesis East Medical Center in Davenport. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2014 from 5-7 pm at the Runge Mortuary. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com
Phil was born April 26, 1947 in Davenport, the son of William and Lillian (Behm) Stick. He was united in marriage to Mary Lange on February 26, 1966 in Davenport; a forty-eight year union that produced three daughters, six grandchildren and many, many laughs.
He worked for the railroad for 41 years. We’d like to tell you which one but ownership changed more often than Phil changed his socks. In Phil’s words, the best part of working for the railroad was retirement. His hobbies included: golfing with anyone willing to swing a club, sarcasm and a lifetime of heartache watching the Cubs and Bears, although he definitely picked the right team with his beloved Iowa wrestling. He also spent a great deal of time hunting – for his keys & golf balls. He missed his true vocation of color announcing with his uncanny knack for announcing sports facts right before the paid announcer did.
Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife, Mary; children and spouses: Lori and Dan Tyler, McCausland, IA; Jodi and Dave Heimer, Highlands Ranch, CO and Misty Stick-Mueller and Bill Mueller, Long Grove; grandchildren: Hunter Tyler (grandpa’s go-to car guy), Kaitlyn Stick-Mueller (spelling ace), Luke Heimer (Lego master), Allison Stick-Mueller (mixed media artist extraordinaire), Ella Heimer (dancing fashionista) and Logan Stick-Mueller (self-proclaimed five year old genius) and a sister, Diane (Laverne) Sizenbach, Omaha, NE.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Iowa Donor Network or you can adopt a cat. Phil and his extraordinary sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, a couple of toes and an unfortunate box of Ho-Ho’s.
