

A Memorial Service for Phyllis M. Olson, 82, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 24, at Weerts Funeral Home. According to her wishes, cremation was performed and inurnment will take place at Pine Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Olson died on February 19 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
Phyllis Mary Olson was born February 2, 1940, to Edwin and Helen (Mock) Roenfeldt in Davenport. She was a 1958 graduate of Davenport Central High School and a 1966 graduate of the University of Iowa. She married Irving H. Olson on October 28, 1967, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Davenport. Her career included a position in the Deere & Co. Administration Library and later she was an editorial assistant at Royal Neighbors of America. As a volunteer, she tutored reading, assisted with the children’s story hour at the Davenport Public Library, and was a Brownie troop leader.
In 1993, she developed an interest in the art of needlework and became a member of the Mississippi River Valley Chapter of the Embroiderer’s Guild of America. While a member, she held many positions, including newsletter editor, historian, program chairman, and region representative. She also created several needlework designs and taught them at MRVC events. Phyllis also was a member-at-large of the American Needlepoint Guild and participated in many of its on-line classes and discussions. She later became a Stampin’ Up demonstrator and enjoyed scrapbooking and making greeting cards.
Survivors include her best friend and loving husband, Irving; a brother, John (Kathy); a niece and nephew; a great-nephew and two great-nieces; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Online condolences may be expressed at www.weertsfh.com
