

Phyllis Darlene Thompson, 85, of Pleasant Valley, Iowa passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023. There will be a private family service and gathering in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Heart Association or the American Parkinson’s Disease Association. Online condolences maybe expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.
Phyllis was born February 2, 1937 in Davenport, Iowa to Harley and Sylvia (Etzel) Border. She graduated from Davenport High School in 1955. Phyllis worked as a secretary in the travel department at the Rock Island Arsenal for 25 years.
In 1957, she married Jerry Block. They were blessed with six children during their 25 years of marriage. In 1980, she married Charles "Bill" Thompson. Later she was reacquainted with a dear family friend of 70 years, Bob, her “special gentleman friend.” They enjoyed rides in the countryside, watching polka, indulging on ice cream, and reminiscing about the good old days.
After retirement, she enjoyed traveling and basking in the sun on beautiful beaches. She made holidays very special for her family and they will forever be grateful and treasure those memories.
The family would like to extended gratitude to Bob and his entire family for their love and support.
Phyllis is survived by daughters, Debra Block of Des Moines, IA, Susan (Scott) Freeman of Coralville, IA, and Sheri Foster of East Moline, IL; sons, Daniel Block of Davenport, IA and Steven (Gretchen) Block of Camanche, IA; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harley and Sylvia Border; husband, Charles “Bill” Thompson; daughter, Bonnie Block; and sisters, Mardene Hart and Dorothy Hilbert.
