Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 27, from 11:00 a.m. -12:30 p.m. at the Runge Mortuary, followed by the funeral service at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to Eastern Iowa Community College Scott Campus. Rick was born on August 6, 1947 to Melvin and Maribelle “Mary” (Albrecht) Ahlgren in Davenport, IA. He served 2 years in the U.S. Army and spent June of 1968 - June of 1969 in Vietnam. On August 29, 1970 he was united in marriage to Donna Robertson in Bettendorf, IA. He graduated from Bettendorf High School with honors in 1965, later earning his BS with high honors in Physics/Math from Western Illinois University in 1973, and a Masters in Applied Science from Augustana College in 1979. Rick taught electronic technologies and computer networking for 28 years at Eastern Iowa Community College Scott Campus, retiring in 2005.
Rick was a member of the National Education Association, Mathematical Association of America, Mathematics Honors Society, and the Sigma Zeta Honorary Science Society.
Rick had a passion for computers, the Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees, and most of all his children, grandchildren, and their sports. He was very involved in their sports and coached his daughters in Dad’s Club softball, basketball, and ASA softball.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Donna, daughters, Rebecca (Kevin) Knox of Milan, IL, and Erica (Jay) Jansen of Long Grove, IA; grandchildren, Addison Knox, Zachary Knox, Andrew Knox, Easton Jansen, and Jaynie Jansen; and siblings, Scott (Marti) Ahlgren of LeClaire, IA, and Tim (Pattie) Ahlgren of Omaha, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter; brother, Larry Ahlgren; sister-in-law, Joyce Ahlgren; in-laws, Robert and Erma Robertson; and grandparents, Axel and Lillian Ahlgren, and Richard and Mary Albrecht.
