Richard J. Bloomer, 97, of Davenport, passed away at Silver Crest at Garner Farms on Saturday, May 11, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Weerts Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at the funeral home. Richard was born on December 27, 1926 in Los Angeles, California to Frederick B. and Dorothy L (Robbins) Bloomer. He graduated from Keithsburg High School in 1945. Richard was drafted into the United States Army Signal Corps on May 31, 1945. He reenlisted after the war and spent 18 months on a recruiting caravan traveling throughout the Midwest. After time served in the Army, Richard worked for the United States Geological Survey (USGS) in and around Los Alamos, New Mexico where he met Evelyn Blevins at a dance. They returned to the Midwest and were united in marriage on August 9, 1952 in Aledo, IL. She preceded him in death on June 28, 2009. Richard worked as a machine inspector for Bendix Corporation and then retired from Cartridge Pack in 1992. Richard was a farmer by heart. Even into his early 90’s he loved to spend time on the farm in rural Joy and surrounding areas. Richard was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a 32-degree Mason. He enjoyed dancing in his younger years with his wife Evelyn.
Survivors include his daughters, Barbara Lecompte of Chicago and Karen Black of Bozeman, MT; sons, James (Kim) Bloomer of Bettendorf and Keith (Deb) Bloomer of Davenport; grandchildren, Haylie (Tash) Wisemiller, Derek Black and Erica (Preet) Sethi; great grandchildren, Neil and Evan Sethi and Sophia, Claire and Miles Wisemiller; Siblings, Shirley Anderson and Bob (Annie) Bloomer, special friend, Edith Koehn and numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Evelyn, and son, William D. “Bill” Bloomer.
