Richard E. Henning, 83, of Blue Grass, passed away peacefully into the arms of our Lord on January 13, 2015 at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City. Cremation rites have been accorded per his wishes and inurnment will be at a later date at the National Cemetery in Rock Island. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Iowa City VA Medical Center. The Runge Mortuary and Crematory assisted the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.rungemortuary.com.
Richard was born on July 3, 1931 to Ernest “Tip” and Vonna (McCleave) Henning. Richard was a veteran of the Navy, having served our country in the Korean War. He married Laquita J. Cole on June 4, 1952 in Davenport. She preceded him in death on May 16, 2001.
Richard is survived by his children and spouses, Ernest and Sandy Henning, Bettendorf; Kevin and Cindy Henning, Blue Grass; Calvin Henning, Blue Grass and Darma and Robert Moses, Davenport; three grandchildren, Eric, Kevin and Keith Henning; several great grandchildren; sisters, Darlene Negus, Texas and Sandra Holt, Davenport as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
