Dick was born in Lima, Ohio, on April 4, 1943, to Martin L. "Dick" and Billee Knuth. Both preceded him in death. A graduate of the last class of Davenport High School in 1961, he went on to attend St. Ambrose College in Davenport. Dick married June Clark Aldape on May 9th, 1980 in Bettendorf, IA.
His father had a profound influence on Dick's hobbies of hunting and fishing. His catch of a lifetime was a largemouth bass he caught in West Lake Toho, Kissimmee Florida. The trophy hangs proudly on the wall of their home. Richard achieved the rank of a 32nd degree Mason and belonged to Acanthus Lodge, Des Moines Iowa. He was also a member of the Za Ga Zig Shrine, Altoona, Iowa.
He began his career in the material handling industry, serving as Rental Manager at Big River Equipment in the Quad Cities. In 1980 he moved to Clarklift of Des Moines as Sales Manager and in 1987 to Allied Handling in Ankeny, IA. His hard work and accomplishments in Iowa led to the company creating a new division, expanding into three additional states. He was given the opportunity to start the operation in Eagan, MN with little more than a near empty trailer and a phone. By the time Dick retired in 2012, the organization was a recognized market leader in the territory. Dick was welcomed into Allied/Associated's ownership group in the late 1990's. After retirement, Dick served as a mentor and sounding board for those he worked with during his career.
Dick is survived by his wife June of Seminole, FL, children Christine (Peter) Bissinger, Clive, IA, Michael Knuth, Waukee, IA, Tracy Oliver, Clive, IA and Ann (Mike) Friedman, St. Petersburg, FL. A sister, Kathie (Al) Eckloff, Minneapolis, MN, niece Sherra (Rich) Buckley, Edina, MN, and nephew Bill (Sara) Eckloff, Eau Claire, WI four grandchildren, extended family and Nellie, his golden doodle.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Davenport, Iowa later this Summer.
