Richard Mitchell

Visitation will be Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 9 am until 10 am at The Runge Mortuary. Services will follow at 10 am at the mortuary. His final resting place will be in Davenport Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may go to the family.

He was born in Hughes, Arkansas, on October 28, 1938, the son of James and Ethel (Woodard) Mitchell. He served in the U.S. Army.

He worked as a Lt. Correctional Officer at the Fort Madison, IA prison for 20 years retiring on December 29, 1994. Richard was a very conversational and giving person who always looked out for everyone before himself.

Those left to honor his memory include his children: Monzell Tolfree, WI, Jennifer (Harvey) Donelson, Rock Island, Tracy (John) Peniston, Muscatine, Terrie Mitchell, Davenport, Mr. and Mrs. Couch, Minneapolis, MN, Sharita Couch, Davenport and Pamela (Donnie) Strong, Davenport; 23 grandchildren; 54 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

His parents, daughter, Jamesenna Brown, sisters, Elizabeth Robinson, Idella Thomas, brother, Amos Mitchell and niece, Valerie Mitchell preceded him in death.
